Basic practice guide (brief)

The computer does not start
None of the LEDs (lights) are on.
Check the network supply cable (current) is properly connected; it is often the thickest one out of all of them. If it is properly connected, disconnect it from the power point and wait 10 seconds then reconnect it. Switch the computer on. Sometimes the power supply source is automatically blocked by its own security.

The screen does not switch on
There are LEDs (lights) switched on the computer, but there is nothing on the screen.
Check is the LED on the monitor is on also, checking that the screen is connected properly to the power point.
If the LED on the screen is on, check that the brightness and/or contract button is not at the lowest level.
Check the cable that connects the monitor to the computer is connected properly. Careful, it does not need to be forced, it has an obvious position and it is not necessary to tighten the screws too much, only a little bit.
If ‘There is no Video Signal’ appears on your monitor again, check the cable or there may be a possible failure with the video card inside the computer. You need to call technical support. techservice@apliser.com

The computer starts, but beeping sounds can be heard (beep, beep, beep)
There is a possible hardware failure, it could be the RAM, video card, that is to say the one that is connected to the monitor, or even the CPU. You need to call technical support. techservice@apliser.com

The Windows main page crashes. Nothing happens.
A programme or driver has been badly installed, or is incompatible, you should use the safe mode and uninstall it correctly or delete it. Only do it if you are an intermediate computer user or more advanced, if not please, call technical support. techservice@apliser.com

Safe Mode

Just as the computer switches on after the first beep (beep), press the F8 key a few times and a menu will appear and can be used with the arrows on the keyboard. Choose the first option, Safe Mode, and click ‘enter’ or ‘intro’. Windows should switch on to exit the problematic programme. If this does not happen, you need to call technical support. techservice@apliser.com

Everything works but there is no Internet connection

Check that the router or MODEM that is used for connecting to the Internet is on and connected to the network.
Check that you have a phone line and it is properly connected, that has not been tampered with.
If the connection is by the network cable to the PC, check that is not in bad condition, disconnected or otherwise.
If the connection is wireless, check that the antennae on the router is not bent, badly positioned or behind any metal object which obstructs the transmission of good signal. Also, you should check that your PC or laptop is not in a ‘hidden’ area which is where Wi-Fi signal is poor or weak.
Disconnect the router, wait about ten seconds and reconnect it. You must wait another 2 minutes which the router switches on and synchronizes with the ADSL line. Then test if your Internet connection is working on your PC, if not you must call technical support. techservice@apliser.com

You cannot print

Check that the printer is properly connected; the electric network as well as the computer.
If your printer is connected with USB, disconnect it, wait 4 or 5 seconds and reconnect it. You should hear a ‘beep’ if it is connected properly. Then try and print.
Go to StartPrinters to check your printer is not on ‘pause’ and if it is exit the pause.
Check that the printer has ink, black as well as colour, though some models automatically block themselves when an ink cartridge is empty. You have to refill it. The same can happen to ‘Laser’ printers, check the toner cartridge.

Little Tips

Install a good antivirus and keep it updated, before connecting to the Internet or receiving mail, browsing the web, or installing programmes.
Set a reasonable wait time for screensavers. If it is for a very short time, 1 minute, the computer is more often displaying the screensavers than actually working, set the time to at least 5 to 15 minutes, as its default time is 14.
If the screensaver uses a model such as Web Shoots, consider that it consumes the bandwidth of the internet ADSL line, so the output becomes inferior.
If you use downloading programmes such as eMule, eDonkey, Limewire, Ares, etc . . . it also consumes the bandwidth, thus browsing the Internet becomes slow. Switch on these programmes only when you are going to use them, so that they are not always on
